Before the Second World War began, George Wylder & Co was building cars of the highest standing – Rolls Royce in fact. The Company also built hearses, and almost fifty years after the death of George Wylder, his widow took her own final journey in a vintage car built by her husband.

96 year-old Win Wylder passed away recently in Lynwood Care Centre in Sunninghill, and her family were so proud that the 1937 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud hearse could take her to the service at Woking Crematorium.

Lodge Brothers Funeral Directors in Chertsey made all the arrangements on behalf of the family, and District Manager Richard Leachman, who conducted the funeral and accompanied the late Mrs Wylder to the Crematorium, commented:

“It was a beautiful vehicle, although not the most comfortable of rides! However, Mrs Wylder’s three daughters were thrilled to see it again, and simply to know their mother was brought to her final resting-place in a classic car built by their father almost 80 years ago, was very special indeed”.

In the photo, the late Mr and Mrs Wylder’s grandsons can be seen by the car at Woking Crematorium.
