Successful Fundraiser for Dementia UK at Datchet Branch
The recent ‘Time for a Cuppa’ event hosted by Lodge Brothers in Datchet was a remarkable success, uniting the community for an important cause. Organised by Hayley Griffiths and Cressida Harris of Lodge Brothers, in collaboration with Liz Berry from Home Instead Windsor, the event featured a vibrant summer poetry competition and an array of delicious cakes and hot beverages. All proceeds went to support Dementia UK, a charity dedicated to helping those affected by dementia.
Attendees enjoyed the warm, welcoming atmosphere, contributing generously to the cause while savouring the delightful refreshments. The poetry competition added a creative twist, with entries written by local individuals living with dementia. These heartfelt and inspiring poems beautifully expressed their thoughts and experiences, with the winning poet receiving a special prize.
In addition to raising funds, the event encouraged a sense of community and support. Guests received ‘What’s going on in Datchet’ goody bags, filled with valuable information for those new to the area, recently bereaved, or looking to connect with others and explore new activities and resources within the community.
Liz Berry emphasized the importance of community support for those living with dementia: “We encouraged our care professionals to come along with their clients to enjoy the social time. Supporting those living with dementia is crucial, and events like this help foster a sense of inclusion and understanding in the community.”
The ‘Time for a Cuppa’ event was a heartfelt gathering that highlighted the power of community spirit and collective effort in making a difference. It was not only a fundraiser but also a celebration of unity, creativity, and compassion.
