LODGE BROTHERS MARK THE OCCASION FOR BATTLE OF BRITAIN DAY
For ‘Battle of Britain’ Day on 15th September, Lodge Brothers of Addlestone remembered those who gave their lives in defence of the country in World War II, by featuring the RAF flag along with a small display in the branch window.
Even though heavy fighting in the skies continued, 15th September 1940 has been acknowledged and remembered as the date of overwhelming and decisive defeat of the Luftwaffe, and for this reason, the date is celebrated in the UK as ‘Battle of Britain’ Day.
Bill Wilde, District Manager, who himself is retired from the Forces, said “We are proud to remember the brave pilots who not only defended our country, but gave their lives to do so. Ken Ash, the Branch Arranger, is a retired RAF Serviceman and wanted to mark the occasion to remind the community of the sacrifices that were made many years ago”.
