Funeral Plans provide total peace of mind for you and your family
Lodge Brothers, the family owned funeral directors in Yiewsley, have sponsored this years Christmas Tree at St. Martin’s Church in West Drayton. Nigel Green-Smith, manager of the Yiewsley branch said “As a family run business we are delighted to have been able to support the church during this season of giving.”
After hearing about the excellent fund raising achievements by St. Martin’s for their Clock Restoration Appeal, Lodge Brothers made a second donation to the clock fund.
The cost to restore and reinstate the ancient Turret Clock is thought to be in excess of £20,000, however over £13,500 has already been raised from grants and donations from local businesses and residents.
The clock was almost certainly handmade by a local blacksmith in the sixteenth century and was originally located in the courtyard of the Manor House. After the Manor House was demolished around 1750 the clock was brought to St. Martin’s Church and placed in the Church Tower.
The clock hung in the Tower until it was taken down for safety reasons in the 1970’s, after coming loose following a storm. It is believe to be the oldest Turret Clock in Middlesex, even older than the one at Hampton Court.
Speaking at the handing over of the Christmas Tree the Reverend Olwen Field said “We would like to thank Lodge Brothers and the many other local businesses and residents who have supported our Clock Restoration Appeal. Their generosity is very much appreciated.”
Anyone wishing to donate to the Clock Appeal should call St. Martin’s Church at West Drayton on 01895 434949.
