Golden Anniversary for Local Funeral Directors
Local Funeral Director’s Cecil Newling of Market Hill, Royston are celebrating fifty years of service to local families.
The family owned business was founded in 1958 by the late Cecil Newling in premises at Green Drift in Royston. He was a master craftsman and was highly skilled in making coffins.
After 33 years of serving the local community, Cecil decided to retire in 1991 but he wanted to ensure the business continued to be family owned. So, he decided to sell the business to Lodge Brothers, a seventh generation family of Funeral Directors who also own T L Cobbold in St Neots and Woodman & Son in Biggleswade.
The business continued to expand during the nineties, bringing about the need for larger premises. In June 2000 the branch was moved to their current premises in Market Hill, Royston.
Today, Cecil Newling is run by six members of the Lodge family who are the seventh generation to serve as Funeral Directors. The Funeral Home is managed by Nigel Anthony supported by Funeral Arranger Jessica Kerr.
Commenting on plans to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Cecil Newling, owner Andrew Lodge said “We are delighted that Cecil Newling has completed fifty years of serving local families with care and compassion. To celebrate this Golden Anniversary we are planning a number of events throughout the year including an Open Day for local residents, Clergy and Care Staff.”
